The Ultimate Guide to Koh Phi Phi: Where to Stay, What to Do, and Where to Eat

Koh Phi Phi is one of Thailand’s most famous islands, known for its stunning beaches, wild nightlife, and incredible snorkeling opportunities. I spent three nights here and had an amazing time, though I have to admit—it’s definitely one of the most touristy and expensive islands in Thailand. Here’s everything you need to know to make the most of your time in Koh Phi Phi.

Where to Stay

I stayed at PP Palmtree Resort for three nights. It’s a clean, relaxed resort, but it was on the pricier side. If you’re looking for something more budget-friendly, the party hostels in Koh Phi Phi are notorious for being a bit gross, though I did hear good things about Pier 519 if you want a decent social hostel.

What to Do

Full-Day Island Snorkeling Tour

One of the best things I did in Koh Phi Phi was the full-day island snorkeling tour. It runs from 6 AM to 2:30 PM, so I highly recommend doing it on your first day before any late-night partying kicks in. The tour takes you to six different stops, including the national park, and includes lunch. The boat is also quite nice and has a bathroom—always a plus! You can book this tour at any of the stalls around the island.

Reggae Bar

This bar was actually the main reason I wanted to visit Koh Phi Phi. It’s a fighting bar where tourists can volunteer to fight for a free bucket of alcohol. Yes, it’s just a bunch of drunk tourists fighting, but it’s wildly entertaining. Get there around 9:15–9:30 PM to snag a seat before it gets packed.

Slinky Bar

Slinky Bar is the place to be late at night. It’s right on the beach and features a fire show around 8 PM. There’s also a mechanical bull in the middle of the bar—though I wouldn’t recommend riding it unless you want to share a seat with a bunch of sweaty (and sometimes naked) people.

Hiking to the Viewpoints

Koh Phi Phi has three viewpoints that are great for sunset. I didn’t personally make the hike, but I heard they’re easily accessible from the main town and offer amazing views.

How Long to Stay

I’d say two to three nights is the perfect amount of time for Koh Phi Phi. I had a blast, but it’s definitely very touristy and one of the most expensive islands in Thailand.

Where to Eat

Garlic 1992

This spot has great Thai food and is super affordable. Highly recommend!

Only Noodles

If you love Pad Thai, you have to eat here. They literally only serve Pad Thai, but it’s some of the best I’ve had in all of Thailand. I ate here every single day.
